Software Quality Assurance Team Lead

What You’ll Do

  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders including senior business and engineering leadership
  • Lead and mentor team members and operate in both a team and individual environment
  • Develop and maintain standards, tools, techniques and processes applicable to testing/automation and documentation required of the quality assurance team. This would include contributing to application/solution development lifecycle process improvements as well as processes and documentation.
  • Review user stories/business requirements/functional specifications and develop test estimates, create, review and maintain testing strategy and plans across various projects
  • Create, review, and maintain test cases to ensure proper test coverage for all projects and to identify efficiencies in test execution
  • Execute test cases using appropriate tool and defect management processes
  • Analyze impact to existing regression/automation suites and work with quality analysts/automation developers to ensure appropriate test cases are updated based on impact analysis
  • Develop processes, documentation, methodologies and testing techniques to establish VPL’s quality assurance practice
  • Provide leadership and management including delegation, tracking, mentoring, and coaching to QA team members. Create, update and review status reports with stakeholders
  • Identify risks and mitigation strategies
  • Develop long-term strategies for improved automation and quality processes and system functionality
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of multiple applications, application integrations, and QA methodologies and serve as a mentor to other QA team members
  • Measure effectiveness and seek to continually improve the quality of processes
  • Act as an ambassador and liaison for Technology Services. Develop relationships with internal and external customers by being proactive, displaying a high level of knowledge of the business and by providing innovative business solutions
  • Drive prioritization conversations, document risk scores and negotiate with stakeholder business partners and solution providers

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Jira or equivalent tools for test case management and defect management
  • Minimum of five years leading quality assurance teams including planning, estimating, and executing testing for large, complex multi-tier applications
  • Expert-level understanding of, and competency in, creating comprehensive test plans, test cases, resource plans, capacity plans, test schedules, and other quality assurance work products
  • Strong knowledge on software quality assurance methodologies, software testing best practices and quality metrics
  • Experience with performance and automated testing tools
  • Team player attitude with commitment to promoting and fostering teamwork
  • Focus on delivering accurate, high-quality assignments and projects
  • Organizational skills with capability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects or initiatives
  • Leadership skills including the ability to mentor and lead group of QA analysts
  • Ability to understand existing business processes and suggest improvements where necessary
  • Ability to multi-task across multiple large, cross-functional, complex projects and/or initiatives, understanding priority and competing needs with minimal direction from management
  • Superlative verbal and written communication skills, people skills, negotiation, coordination, planning, presentation skills, facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute in metrics-driven continuous improvement initiatives
  • Experience with facilitating meaningful conversations with business and IT stakeholders, and building consensus
